Post Please Help me as it's all disappeared
Hey people, once again thank you for a great program but I'm freaking out right at the moment. It took me several days to input all my movies and have it set up the way I wanted. It was perfect. After a week of not going to movienizer I have opened it up as I wanted to do a report. Problem is that my database is empty. In the Open Database it lists the database but when you click on it nothing happens except getting the message Movienizer needs to update the database, Yes, No. I've said Yes 6 times and still no joy, I now have several copies of the database supposedly in My Documents but even trying to open it from there I get an empty screeen. I am using the latest version of Movienizer and up till now haven't had much in the way of problems, except alphabetizing with the "The" thing. So could someone please tell me how to get my database back. I want to keep using this and was on the verge of donating but if I'm going to keep losing the database then ...... Please guys, I've been telling everyone I know about this brilliant program and I really don't want them coming to me complaining. It's obviously something I've done but I have no idea what.

I have even tried to save the list in Program Files Movienizer and nothing.. The strange thing is that every time I try to do anything, including starting the program I get the "Movienizer needs to update the database do you want to backup first" thing. Regardless of whether I say yes or no the only thing that happens is that in the panel on the right (jEf) called featured DVD changes. Weirdly it puts movies in there that I don't even have. Please tell me what I've done wrong. As I said I have 2.1.1 and it was working beautifully. I'm sorry to be a pain but, I'm not a well person, so it was a huge effort to get them all in there in the first place.

Hi dragonfyshe,

It's not easy to advise in your case. Is it possible for you to upload your database (only the .dmo file zipped) and PM me a link to download it ?
Maybe i could help if i can examine your database.

What operating system do you use? Is there anything under Program files/Movienizer/Logs ?

Hi JeF, thanks for getting back to me so quick. I use Vista Home Basic on a Dell Insiron 1525 laptop. As for uploading the database I will upload what I have but it seems to have all disappeared. Thank you for your help, I'll PM you as soon as it's uploaded. Thank you again. Any idea why this may have happened?

kind of off topic but could you please explain to me what CSV is and how to use it etc. One of the reasons I love this program is that you can print your list through reports. but i keep seeing CSV and though I've googled it, i don't understand. so, if you could explain it to me like i'm an idiot, that would be most helpful thanks again. and sorry to be such a problem

Thank you JeF for all your help via PM. Truly above and beyond the call of duty. You and Vlad certainly care about this program and it shows. I for one want everyone to know how much I appreciate everything you have done, big or small to make such a superb program.

However, I would still love an answer to the CSV thing. Curiousity is getting to this cat. lol.

All the best and thank you so much for trying. See you soon.

You're welcome.

It's a common (or at least an easy) way to import/export data into/from software. This consists in a text file in which each line represents one item with all its data (a movie card for instance). CSV means Comma-Separated Values.
So, as a movie card is composed with several informations, each information in the text line is separated from others with : sometimes a colon (,) and sometimes with a semicolon (;).
Then, a csv import file for a movie would be like (not presuming for movienizer format) :
MyMovieTitle,MyMovieYear,MyMovieDirectorName,..
MyMovieTitle2,MyMovieYear2,MyMovieDirectorName2,..
or MyMovieTitle;MyMovieYear;MyMovieDirectorName;..
MyMovieTitle2;MyMovieYear2;MyMovieDirectorName2;..

Hope that was uderstandable enough ;)
JeF
