Post JeF's Toolbox v0.9 (beta) (discontinued)
Hi,

JeF's Toolbox idea is to have some tools in a pack easily usable whatever interface you use.
So, one of JeF's Toolbox plugin purposes is to make some JeF's interface tools available outside JeF's interface (like attributes renamer).
Another one is to make new tools available (like language file updater).

How to install:
zip file contains plugin dll and associated english language file in a 'plugins' folder.
So, just unzip the file in the Movienizer install dir and all files will automatically be created into plugins subfolder.

This is beta so there may still be some bugs.
Plugin autosaves settings in an xml file under AppData\Movienizer folder.

Feel free to comment.
;)
JeF

Saving settings to the plugins folder won't work on Vista/7 with UAC active. You can save settings to Windows Registry (to the Movienizer's key), there shouldn't be any problem with that (Microsoft wants that all programs save their settings in the registry).

Ok, will move the file to AppData\Movienizer. v0.812 will come soon.

That also was my idea at first but as query definitions and rename rules are part of these settings and as number of definitions should grow along time, i revised my choice to a separate file because i don't want to overload registry with this kind of things. So, this will remain an xml file in AppData with some advantages : all in one file, xml format for convenience, easily editable or sharable if needed.
Last, just a feeling : Uac is sometimes really annoying...
Thanks for your advice.

I suspected that there was some reason for saving settings to a file :D . Well, it should be either AppData, or UserProfile directories then (depending on whether a typical user should be able to access the files easily).

Fully agree :). It's quite an unpredictable feature, if you don't know how it works. For example, it allows user-level programs saving data to Program files (say, Movienizer wants to save something to Program files\Movienizer, like the current version of your plugin does. Windows accepts this requests, but it saves the file not in the specified folder, but in some temporary folder with a tricky name. So you are unlikely to find it later

I don't know if a plugin can be run with administrator privileges (I suppose that it can't), but I think you can create an additional program (.exe) called from your plugin that would run with administrator privileges. When attempting to run it, the user will be prompted to elevate permissions, so the program will be able to write to Program files and do other things that any program can do on XP.

Does it support localized files? Looks like it doesn't take translations.

v 0.812 : Settings file moved (to AppData) to prevent UAC troubles on vista/seven systems.

v0.812 does.
v0.81 didn't because i'm having troubles with strings 5000- using PluginDemo exe (easier to run and rerun demo pgm instead mnz while dev) so i did force strings 5000- from .English.lng file in v 0.81.
Could you please check and tell me if Plugin Demo exe should work with strings 5000- from plugin lang file ?
Maybe i'm not using the right demo exe or the right UserFunctions.dll.
Thanks
JeF
