Post Add/Update Movie often freezes
Very often, when I add a new movie and proceed to the Add/Update Movie script (to fetch movie info from the web), Movienizer 4.4 freezes. This occurs approximately 50% of the time. I have a Windows 7 x64 PC. Any ideas how I might avoid this?

Thanks!

Freezes or only slows down ?
Please try to wait a couple of minutes (more if necessary) and tell us if data get finally downloaded or not : just to make sure it's a freeze or not.
Do you update data using the pc having the db on one of its local drives or do you update a db located on a net drive ?
Try to copy your db (file *.dmo + covers folder) on a local drive (or use the pc having the db on its local drive) : still having the same issue ?

@Dev Team:
Having the same pb using XP Pro SP3 when running Movienizer to update a db on a distant drive (local network) : download scripts are'nt involved : using imdb movie script, slow down occurs after GetInfo ends and before GetFrames/GetImages calls (occurs with any of the six starwars movies).
Tested with a 5,5 Mo db file (approx. 900 movies, 160 in collection), covers folder is about 160Mo with about 3000 files (thumbs included).
Drive is shared with full access rights (co-owner) on a local network.

Hi Jef,

The db is local to the PC I am having the issue with. I left it to run for several hours (It ran for about 2 hours, then I went to bed). The info was finally downloaded by morning. Is this a slowdown or freeze? Well, isn't several hours to download a freeze? It seems to hang at IMDb (or at least that is was is indicated by the status).

Technically it's not but i totally agree it's felt as a freeze.
What about your download settings (F10, 'Download options' tab), especially the 'number of persons to download' from 'for movies' panel ? Is it higher than 50 ?
Setting it down to 30 or less may get things better as it seems that actor list download is involved (unticking 'Actors' in script options solved the slow down for me).
Please try and tell me.

Could you please describe the problem in more detail? Please describe step by step what you do (i.e. what movie title you enter, what your download settings are etc.). Please feel free to illustrate your description with screenshots.

Do you have links to video files in this database? Does this occur if you remove all movie links?

Yes, same issue with and without video files links.
Seems actors processing is involved cause unticking 'Actors' in imdb movie script options results in no more slow down.
Seems network is also involved because downloading movie info including actors list does not rise sensitive slow down when using a local db :
Download options settings : number of persons to download is set to 100
Tested on Starwars Episode 1 with movie info already downloaded (99 actors) and clicking 'Download' button from toolbar :
- distant db on local network, 'Actors' ticked : download time is about 4' 40
- distant db on local network, 'Actors' UNticked : download time is about 0' 25
- local db (main pc), 'Actors' ticked : download time is about 0' 10

I am using default settings.

I click Add Movie -> from files and folders (my movies are on NAS) ->browse to the movie (.iso) -> select Next.
At this point I may get a list of similar titles for me to chose. Once the movie information begins to download, it freezes. Usuallu, I can download several kbs of data before it freezes.

Do you have the same problem if you add a movie by title (using the first option in the "Add movie" dialog)?

I have tried this method to add a movie a few times with success. I have also reduced 'number of persons to add' in download options from 100 to 50, which has IMPROVED the issue. That is, it freezes less often.

hope this information is helpful.

btw- i do really love this application. My two young children are not yet reading well, but can select movies based on cover art. By having this catalog on my Dune player, they can chose and play movies without assistance. We have both english and spanish language films, on two seperate sources and movienizer really simplifies viewing.
